Extractions are offered when necessary …
Although we encourage our patients to keep their teeth (as nothing that replaces them is as good) and we will go to great lengths to preserve teeth, but sometimes a tooth is so badly damaged that taking it out is the only ( or most suitable ) option.
Missing teeth, particularly back teeth (molars) can cause occlusion (or bite) problems over time.
Teeth can tip or tilt into the gap.
Teeth can grow down into a gap, this all changes how your teeth meet.
The more back teeth you have missing, the more load is placed on your front teeth causing them to wear, break and chip.
This can also place extra strain on your jaw joints and muscles.
So preserving teeth where possible is always the best solution long term.
